ここ数日ブリュッセルやパリを歩き回ったり、いろんな人（日本人以外）と話をしていて感じたこと。
物作りやデザインするってことは独りよがりではあるのだけど、そこに物語がないと感動を産めない。
単純な「kawaii」は見向きもされないのだ。
以前津軽塗の下駄を展示したとき、ぱっとみは「ただのトング」に見えるものが、その背景にもつ歴史や工程、なぜわたしと作っているのかの話をしたところ「それなら欲しいわ」と言ってくれた。
自分の物語を紡ぎ出せない、説明のできないものはいくらきれいでも人の心を打たないんだよねえ。
まああっち方面の「kawaii」は別文化として。
チャーミーちゃんが愛されるのも、その背景にある「日本で作られている」「ひとつずつ手描きされている」「ずっと同じデザインで子供たちに愛されていた」という話があるから、かわいいだけじゃない、うちにも一人欲しいとなるわけです。
わたしはこれからも頑張って物語を紡いでいこうと思います。
